Wilsons Promontory, Waratah Bay and Walkerville

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

 

As we are a remote location, the nearest shops, petrol stations, and restaurants are all about 30 minutes drive from here (Tarwin Lower, Sandy Point, Fish Creek).

 

You will need to bring your own food, drinks, books, DVDs, CDs. videos, beach towels, and tough walking shoes for exploring.

Don't forget to pack snorkels, goggles and fishing gear (bait at Tarwin Lower)  and your bikes for riding on the Rail Trail.

 

On arrival at Bear Gully, you will be welcomed, shown to your cottage and a brief introduction to your "getaway", and then left to enjoy your stay.

Bear Gully Coastal Cottages are only a 35 minute drive to the park gate, making it a convenient place to stay for day trips to Wilson's Prom and all the features of the Southern Gippsland Area.  

The southern most point of the Australia's mainland is Wilsons Promontory (also known as 'the Prom') is the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria. Wilsons Prom offers you 130 km of coastline with granite headlands, mountains, forests and fern gullies. Tidal River, 30 km inside the park boundary, is the focus for tourism and recreation. Tidal River is the main river in Wilsons Promontory. It runs into Norman Bay and swells with the tide (hence the name 'Tidal River'). The viewing platform at the summit of Mount Oberon offers a unique vantage point to view this dramatic and beautiful meeting of land and sea.

Bear Gully's Self-contained Cottages are ideally located accommodation for visitors to "Prom Country". This pristine coastal retreat has it’s own little beach tucked into the coast of Waratah Bay.  A perfect place to swim, fish, snorkel, dive or just fossick amongst the beautiful rock pools. 

Nearby is the beautiful beach of Walkerville South.  Visit the remains of the old historic lime kilns, take the board walk behind the kilns to neighbouring Walkerville North and visit the old settlers cemetery on the way.

Cape Liptrap Lighthouse is a 10 minute drive away located in the Cape Liptrap National Park and offers sweeping views to Venus Bay and out to Bass Strait.  Watch the whales go by. Waratah bay extends from Cape Liptrap, right around past Walkerville, Waratah Bay Township, Sandy Point andWilson's Promontory.
